CALLED TO WORSHIP The BIBLICAL FOUNDATIONS of OUR RESPONSE to GOD’S CALL by Vernon M. Whaley

Vernon Whaley takes us on a life-changing journey; one that we enjoy every step of the way, understanding God’s call to each of us, seeing His person, His presence, His power, His plan, and His purpose revealed from the very beginning of Creation. Each impacting thought reveals a God who doesn’t demand a perfect vessel for the outpouring of His love, but one who will receive and in return worship. One is not required to accomplish through works, only surrender to the Lord of Lords who will do His work in each child of God as we sit at His feet desiring to learn of Him. God desires to dwell with me. God desires to dwell with you. We are born to worship Him—the Giver of all life; the Father of all joy; the Creator of all peace. To know this love is to be changed. There is no challenge in Vernon Whaley’s book; the mere reading of it brings one to the feet of Jesus with a heart overflowing in worship. A new focus—an eternal commitment. Are you an avid reader of Christian books? Thomas Nelson's book blogger program offers free books. Max Lucado in his new book Fearless takes a deep look into what happens when our individual fears rule us. He examines each fear, exposing that fear, and hands out the arms necessary for successful battle. Not the heavy armor of Saul, but the simple little stones and sure slingshot of David are used to fell the Goliaths of fear in our lives. This is definitely not a book for the self-help shelf, but a guide to sure victory through the Savior. “Before you trust, you have to listen. But, unless Christ’s Word is preached, there’s nothing to listen to.” Banished are the frightful thoughts that send ripples of doubt. Worries are dispelled; anxiety is gone; dread is gone. You say, “Impossible! The things that cause me fear are real! How can I become absolutely free from fear?” Fearless—A superman, a hero?? An ordinary person like you or me able to stand firm in the presence or anticipation of danger? Max Lucado’s latest book leaves one with the light-hearted truth of knowing this is possible for each person. A Discussion Guide for group study is included.

Whoops! Did you miss this one? “The Jesus Book” by Stephen Elkins and its cover art by Claudine Gévry suggest a Bible for preschoolers. Look again! Inside is an insightful teaching guide for 8-10 years of age. Divided into sections answering the “Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How” questions about the life and purpose of Jesus, the author has provided a tool suitable for homeschoolers and small group Bible lessons. The back cover calls this “The EVERYTHING book about God’s Son”. Perhaps this would be a more suitable title. Adding to its value as a teaching tool are a Map Guide, Scripture Index, Topical Index, and Names and Places Index. A WonderKids CD is included with the book.
Read and Share Toddler Bible--stories retold by Gwen Ellis and illustrated by Steve Smallman.

√ Simple! Amazing! Perfect! This is not just another Bible for toddlers! As a parent, grandparent, Children’s Church and Christian preschool teacher, I sometimes felt the need for a more exciting way to present the Bible to children. Could a simple presentation of the same stories be told differently in toddler language and yet keep the integrity of details in the Word? Storyteller Gwen Ellis and artist Steve Smallman have accomplished this and more in the Read and Share Toddler Bible. Plus, there is the added bonus of a 60 minute DVD featuring the same artwork. √ “Away flew the stone, Down went the giant.” The effectiveness of vintage Dick and Jane readers is enjoyably revisited. Clearly marked scripture texts, effective sometimes poetic style and word sound-effects, sharing ideas, and detailed artwork make this book stand out in its difference. “Pound! Pound! Saw! Saw!” A table is built, a door is fixed, a “carpenter” is defined. Dynamic facial expressions bring characters to life. Biblical numbers in the pictures provide teachable math moments—10 camels, 12 sons of Jacob and all the sons of Jesse. √ Toddlers will not forget these beautiful Bible lessons, carefully selected for children and revealed in their simplicity.
